La Fondation Tony Elumelu célèbre ses 15 ans d'action lors de la 81e Assemblée générale des Nations unies ; la tournée de vérification « IYBA WE4A » arrive à sa dernière étape en Ouganda après avoir traversé huit pays ; et nous mettons à l'honneur une ancienne lauréate qui utilise la technologie pour faciliter la gestion financière des petites entreprises.

15 ans d'engagement. Des milliers d'histoires. Une vision encore plus ambitieuse.

Il y a quinze ans, l'objectif était simple : donner aux entrepreneurs africains la possibilité de se développer.

Depuis lors, des milliers d'entrepreneurs ont su transformer cette opportunité en entreprises, en emplois, en produits et en solutions au service de leurs communautés.

La semaine dernière, La Fondation Tony Elumelu a publié son rapport d'impact sur les 15 dernières années en marge de la 81e Assemblée générale des Nations Unies (AGNU 81) à New York, réunissant les dirigeants de la Fondation, ses partenaires et les acteurs de l'écosystème entrepreneurial au sens large afin de faire le point sur 15 années d'entrepreneuriat africain et sur son impact.

Et, bien sûr, nos anciens élèves ont joué un rôle dans cette histoire. Derrière chaque chiffre d’un rapport d’impact se cache une personne qui a commencé quelque part, une entreprise née d’une idée et un fondateur qui a décidé de se lancer.

Cela fait 15 ans que nous avons un impact. Et nous continuons à nous développer.

Exercice de vérification physique « WE4A » de l'IYBA : dernière étape, l'Ouganda

Le chemin a été long.

L'exercice de vérification sur le terrain « WE4A » de l'IYBA nous a conduits dans huit pays : le Mozambique, le Malawi, la Tanzanie, le Sénégal, le Kenya, le Cameroun, le Togo et, désormais, l'Ouganda. Huit pays. D'innombrables échanges. Des entreprises dirigées par des femmes qui mettent en place des solutions écologiques et durables au sein de leurs communautés.

Le programme d'entrepreneuriat WE4A de l'IYBA soutient des femmes entrepreneures dans huit pays d'Afrique subsaharienne qui créent des entreprises contribuant à la transition écologique. Cette mission de vérification a été l'occasion de rencontrer ces entrepreneures sur le terrain et de découvrir leur travail de près.

La semaine dernière, nous avons rendu visite à des femmes entrepreneurs au Togo.

Et voilà que nous arrivons à notre dernière étape : l'Ouganda.

Ouganda, on arrive chez toi. C'est la dernière étape, et on va en profiter pleinement.

De la confusion financière à la clarté financière : découvrez Olapeju Nwanganga

Pour de nombreuses petites entreprises, la gestion des chiffres peut rapidement devenir un casse-tête. Les ventes affluent, les dépenses s’accumulent, il faut suivre les stocks, tenir des registres… et la comptabilité devient un souci de plus.

Olapeju Nwanganga J'ai constaté ce problème et j'ai décidé de mettre au point une solution.

Le fondateur et PDG de Ploutos Page Limited, Olapeju développe des outils destinés à simplifier la gestion financière des micro, petites et moyennes entreprises (MPME). Son entreprise propose trois produits phares : Pepcode, qui aide les start-ups et les micro, petites et moyennes entreprises (MPME) à suivre leurs ventes, leurs dépenses et leurs stocks ; AuditMe, qui met en relation les entreprises avec des auditeurs agréés proposant des services d'audit à des tarifs abordables ; et ÓWÀ par Pepcode, une solution de comptabilité gérée par un agent, spécialement conçue pour les commerçantes des marchés en plein air.

Mais son travail ne se limite pas aux logiciels. Olapeju s'attache à aider les chefs d'entreprise à comprendre leurs chiffres, à prendre de meilleures décisions et à mieux se préparer à la croissance et à l'accès au financement.

Depuis son parcours au sein du TEF, Ploutos Page a emménagé dans des locaux plus spacieux, a lancé ÓWÀ by Pepcode à l'intention des femmes exerçant un métier de marché et a noué des partenariats stratégiques.

Pour Olapeju, l'aventure entrepreneuriale a commencé par une simple constatation : de nombreuses petites entreprises ont du mal à gérer leurs finances car elles n'ont pas accès à des outils simples et pratiques. Elle en a donc créé un. Parfois, la croissance commence par la compréhension des chiffres.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation will be launching its 15th Year Impact Report at the 81st United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, September 23, and our Alumni will be there live, showcasing their businesses and sharing their entrepreneurial journeys since receiving support from the Foundation.

From $10 a Month to a Regional Ambition

Let’s talk about Adama Bologo.

Before any funding or mentorship, he was in Ouagadougou running Bologo Tunique alone, one machine, basic equipment, and a business bringing in about $10 a month. Not $10,000. Ten dollars.

But here’s what he had that no spreadsheet could capture: a real point of view. He believed African fabrics, bogolan and handwoven cotton didn’t need to stay frozen in the past to matter. They could sit on a modern shirt, a reimagined tunic, a ceremonial piece redesigned for right now.

Heritage and modernity, sharing one garment.

In 2019, the Tony Elumelu Foundation backed that belief with $5,000 in seed capital, business training and mentorship. Adama didn’t just bank it. He put it straight into the business: industrial sewing equipment, cutting tables, better fabric. He brought on two apprentices, young people learning tailoring hands-on, not just watching from the sidelines.

The result? Revenue went from $10 a month to $500. His team grew from one person to four.

Now he’s not stopping at Burkina Faso. Mali, Côte d’Ivoire and Benin are next.

Here’s the real lesson: Adama didn’t wait until the business “looked ready” to take it seriously. He took the belief he already had and matched it with structure, tools and training. That’s the difference between a side hustle and a business that scales.

Somachi Chris-Asoluka at the Brazilian Philanthropy Forum 2026

Somachi Chris-Asoluka, CEO of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, was invited to speak at the Brazilian Philanthropy Forum 2026, a premier annual gathering of philanthropic leaders, social investors, corporate foundations, and civil society organizations.

At the forum, she shared powerful insights from Africa on how catalytic philanthropy can empower young entrepreneurs through technology and inclusive partnerships. One key takeaway she left the audience with: “Learn, learn, learn. Never be satisfied or complacent with what you know.”

Her contribution underscored TEF’s commitment to driving sustainable development by equipping the next generation of African entrepreneurs with the tools and networks they need to thrive.

Growing a Dream Through Nature and Creativity

For Niry Gabrielle Raveloarinanja, becoming a female entrepreneur was a childhood dream. Today, as the founder of Malagasy Design, a 2021 TEF-funded business in Madagascar, she is turning that dream into a thriving venture.

Malagasy Design specialises in horticulture, pottery and landscaping, creating customised miniature landscapes with natural plants and bonsai. The business also offers succulent arrangements, houseplants, ceramic décor and event decoration.

Niry credits the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme with helping her take the step into entrepreneurship, driven by her desire for independence and to contribute to the development of her country.

Looking ahead, she hopes to expand her vision by creating a Japanese-inspired relaxation and wellness space for meditation, yoga and relaxation. With creativity, authenticity and a deep love for nature at the heart of her work, Niry continues to grow a business that reflects both her passion and her entrepreneurial spirit.

Seeds of Innovation: Jama Ibrahim’s Mission to Feed Somaliland

Jama Ibrahim Yassin established Hadi Farming Enterprises in 2016 to tackle food security challenges through sustainable, smart farming technologies in Somaliland. With TEF funding received in 2016, he launched a hybrid production model that combines Shade Net Growing Systems for exotic crops with open-field farming for large-scale vegetables. Using drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and organic practices, Hadi Farming reduces reliance on imports while proving that local agriculture can thrive with innovation.

Since the TEF grant, Jama has integrated circular economy principles and scaled climate-resilient systems powered by solar irrigation. Hadi Farming now serves as a proof-of-concept for modern agriculture in Somaliland, blending automation, data analytics, and youth training to build the next generation of agronomists. From leafy greens to fruiting vegetables, the enterprise is feeding communities and inspiring a professional, high-tech future for agriculture in the region.

Cultivium at 10: Jean Emmanuel Labonne’s Bold Expansion

Founded in 2016 and fueled by TEF funding in 2017, Jean Emmanuel Yannick Labonne created Cultivium, a dynamic enterprise bridging culture, education, and technology. Headquartered in Mauritius and South Africa, Cultivium has supported over 50 local businesses with social media management while evolving from cultural tourism into affordable housing, digital currencies, and global relocation services.

As Cultivium prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary in November 2026, the company is launching eight new international branches, backed by visionary partners like Mauzenial.com and Leko974. Endorsed by the African Union as one of Africa’s Top 50 education innovators, Cultivium is redefining how education and technology intersect. At the heart of this growth is Jean’s commitment to professionalism and innovation, ensuring Cultivium remains a force for transformation across Africa and beyond.

With over 2,000 units sold, distributors onboarded, and certification secured, Lochids is proving that Nigerian agriculture can stand proudly on the global stage. Olufunmilola’s story is one of vision, courage, and transformation, the kind every entrepreneur dreams of living.

Un tissu raffiné, une vision audacieuse : l'histoire de Rutendo Georgia Kusano

Dans 2024, Rutendo Georgia Kusano a reçu un financement du TEF pour se développer Atelier Monkey Rain, une marque de mode basée à Harare, spécialisée dans les robes de mariée et les tenues de cérémonie sur mesure. Forte de sa créativité et de sa détermination, elle s'est donné pour mission de redéfinir la haute couture au Zimbabwe.

Aujourd’hui, Monkey Rain Atelier est une marque de renom : elle habille les mariées pour les moments clés de leur vie, collabore avec Miss Monde Zimbabwe et Miss Intercontinental Zimbabwe, et travaille en partenariat avec des institutions telles que l’ambassade d’Allemagne, le British Council et l’ambassade de Suisse. Rutendo a également été choisie comme commissaire de l'exposition de la Zim Fashion Week, consolidant ainsi son rôle de figure de proue du secteur.

Du financement initial à la reconnaissance internationale, Monkey Rain Atelier montre comment une vision et un savoir-faire artisanal peuvent propulser la mode africaine sur la scène mondiale.

In 2024, Mary Msigwa launched CAM3 Estate Company to drive climate-smart farming and empower smallholder farmers in Dodoma, Tanzania. Starting with just one acre, she integrated drip irrigation, organic pest control, crop rotation, and solar-powered water pumping to cut emissions and boost food security.

Today, CAM3 is more than a farm. It’s a hub for vegetable and fruit production, nursery services, agri-tourism, and youth training. By purchasing and storing produce from smallholder farmers, especially women, Mary helps reduce post-harvest losses and secure fair prices, lifting rural incomes.

From one acre to a model of eco-friendly agribusiness in Central Tanzania. This is what determination and sustainability can achieve.

Mary Msigwa: Growing Prosperity Through Climate-Smart Farming in Tanzania

Mary launched CAM3 Estate Company in 2024 to champion sustainable horticulture and empower smallholder farmers in Dodoma, Tanzania. Through CAM3 Horticultural Farm, she integrates climate-smart practices like drip irrigation, organic pest control, crop rotation, and solar-powered water pumping to reduce environmental impact and improve food security.

Operating on a 1-acre farm, CAM3 has become a hub for vegetable, fruit, and seedling production, while also offering nursery services, agri-tourism (farm tours), and youth training programs. By purchasing and storing produce from smallholder farmers—especially women—CAM3 helps reduce post-harvest losses and ensures fair market prices, boosting rural incomes.

Since its establishment, CAM3 has trained young farmers in sustainable agriculture, cut carbon emissions by 20% through solar-powered systems, and positioned itself as a model for eco-friendly agribusiness in Central Tanzania.

Mettre les agriculteurs au cœur des opportunités : l'histoire de Viola et d'Essymart Africa

Viola a été lancée Essymart Afrique en 2022 afin de mettre les petits agriculteurs en relation avec les marchés, les intrants et les services de transformation. Financé par le TEF en 2024, Essymart accompagne aujourd’hui plus de 5 000 agriculteurs dans l’est de l’Ouganda, les aidant à augmenter leurs revenus de 40 à 451 TP3T grâce à des outils numériques tels que des applications web, des SMS et des appels vocaux.

La plateforme s'est étendue à plusieurs départements, a ouvert des points de vente en milieu rural et construit actuellement des installations de transformation afin de réduire les pertes après récolte. En encourageant les pratiques durables et en autonomisant les femmes dans le secteur agricole, Essymart s'attaque aux causes profondes de la pauvreté tout en renforçant la sécurité alimentaire et la résilience face au changement climatique.

Quel est cet objectif professionnel que vous pensiez impossible à atteindre ?

L'équipe de la Fondation TEF s'est rendue au Cameroun pour rencontrer des entrepreneurs soutenus par la Fondation dont les idées se sont transformées en entreprises florissantes. Nous avons organisé une réunion avec le ministre de la Jeunesse afin de discuter de l'impact de la Fondation et de la coordination avec le gouvernement camerounais. Nous avons également organisé une rencontre d'anciens participants à laquelle ont assisté plus de 50 anciens participants !

Dans le cadre du programme phare d'entrepreneuriat du TEF 2026, nous en sommes actuellement à la phase de dépôt des demandes de capital d'amorçage, au cours de laquelle les entrepreneurs soumettent leurs pièces d'identité, leurs documents d'enregistrement de leur entreprise, etc.

Cinq ans, un parcours remarquable

À la Fondation Tony Elumelu, nous misons sur la croissance, non seulement pour les entrepreneurs que nous accompagnons, mais aussi pour les personnes qui, chaque jour, font avancer notre mission.

Rencontrer Oniye Okolo, qui a rejoint la Fondation en tant que chargé des partenariats et qui, en seulement cinq ans, a gravi les échelons pour devenir responsable des partenariats.

Lawrence Hoba, fondateur d'ENRAPOWER

Lawrence a fondé ENRAPOWER au Zimbabwe afin de proposer des solutions d'énergie renouvelable abordables dans toute l'Afrique australe. L'entreprise a remporté plusieurs prix, notamment le SEED Africa (2019), le Stanbic Bank Entrepreneurship (2024) et le Gian Marco Morrati (2025), et a obtenu un financement de $100 000.

Les systèmes intégrés d'énergie renouvelable d'ENRAPOWER ont eu un impact sur des dizaines de milliers de personnes, en favorisant l'accès à une énergie propre, en réduisant la dépendance aux combustibles fossiles et en contribuant à la réalisation de plusieurs objectifs de développement durable.

Les travaux de Lawrence font du Zimbabwe une plaque tournante de l'innovation dans le domaine des énergies renouvelables, tout en favorisant un accès inclusif à l'énergie.

Emmanuel Kwaghalaade Ugba

Emmanuel Kwaghalaade Ugba, actuel responsable du pôle de l'État de Benue, au Nigeria. Fondateur d'Emasion Shoes Limited, Emmanuel a lancé son activité sous un arbre au bord d'une route à Makurdi. Aujourd'hui, son entreprise produit plus de 10 000 paires de chaussures, s'est diversifiée dans la fabrication de ceintures et d'accessoires, et exporte vers d'autres pays africains.

En raison d'une demande exceptionnelle, nous avons rouvert le Opportunités de financement de deuxième phase formulaire.

Nous avons reçu de nombreuses demandes de la part d'anciens élèves qui n'avaient pas pu remplir le formulaire avant la date limite initiale. C'est pourquoi nous avons prolongé la période de dépôt des candidatures afin de donner à chacun une nouvelle occasion de manifester son intérêt.

Nous vous invitons également à vérifier et à mettre à jour votre profil et vos autres informations personnelles si nécessaire, afin de garantir l'exactitude de vos données et de vous assurer de recevoir les e-mails relatifs au programme ainsi que d'autres informations importantes.

Owen Omogiafo, PDG du groupe Transcorp, a déclaré un jour : “Entourez-vous des bonnes personnes : le succès n'est pas le fruit du hasard, c'est le résultat d'une démarche délibérée.»

Owen insiste sur la nécessité de s'entourer des bonnes personnes, celles qui partagent les mêmes objectifs que vous et qui sauront vous remonter le moral les jours où vous êtes au plus bas.

En tant qu'entrepreneur, on traverse forcément des moments difficiles. Qu'est-ce qui vous aide à garder le cap ? Les personnes qui vous entourent.

Demandez-vous : “ Est-ce que je suis entouré des bonnes personnes ? ”
